Lincoln Park High School Outdoors Club, Lincoln Park, MI

Lincoln Park High School received a $700 grant to bring 25 students to Mount Brighton Resort in Brighton, MI for a day of skiing. The grant paid for transportation and lockers, enabling an affordable experience for participants from a school where 79 percent of the student body is economically disadvantaged. Of the 25 participating students, 24 skied for the first time. All now hope they will ski again in the future.

The best part for me as a teacher was seeing how nervous the students were at the beginning of their lesson, compared to their confidence going down the ‘bigger runs’ at the end of the day. The bus ride home started off noisy with everyone sharing their stories (and falls), but then the exhaustion took hold the second half of the ride. – Lincoln Park High School Science Teacher and Outdoors Club Advisor, Rob Cundy
